International Alternative Networks

The global network of alternative communication is growing and gaining momentum. Its strength is based on collaboration through social movement organizing and media reform campaigns to improve information and communication to the benefit of everyone. The networks are diverse in terms of their location their focus, type, and location however they are joined by a non-commercial ethos and a resistance to imperialist power systems. International alternative networks include individuals and non-profit organizations, as well local sites that support democratizing information reforms and encourage changes in communication. They also develop new communication infrastructures that aid local connections, regional shifts and global ones with respect to social movements. They also create a system of transnational, local (especially south-south) regional and global links that bypass imperial dynamics north-south.

Around the globe, alternative media tasks began to appear in the early 1990s. They took advantage of the newly-available alternatives to corporate production media channels to promote their message of consumer development and community empowerment. Initially they were local, but then merged and linked around regional and national boundaries which created more media options for all.

These alternatives, unlike the traditional infrastructure of communication that relies heavily upon capital investments, depend on volunteers to assist them. They can therefore offer customers lower prices and more flexible packages. They can also build infrastructure with greater agility that allows them to deploy 5G technology quicker and expand coverage areas more efficiently. This can help businesses to succeed on the market, and ensure that their customers have access to advanced services without delay.
